Distinguished Professorships

Interdisciplinary Excellence Built On World-Class Knowledge

Washington State University is committed to the importance and tradition of endowed chairs and distinguished professorships in recognizing and fostering academic excellence among its faculty. The University recognizes the desire of donors to support a wide variety of academic and research activities through the creation of endowed funds to enhance, in perpetuity, state support for the University's mission. Endowed chairs and professorships are reserved for distinguished scholars and teachers. An endowed chair or professorship provides funds to a faculty member in support of their teaching, research, and service, and is supported by payout from an endowment fund. A donation of $1.5 million will establish an Endowed Chair; the State of Washington has a matching program that allows the University to receive matching funds from the State's Distinguished Professorships Trust Fund Program. The total endowment will generate income sufficient to support the distinguished professorship. For further information on creating an endowment please visit the WSU Foundation's web site at http://wsufoundation.wsu.edu/ways-to-give/endowment/ .
